ABCs For Toddlers

Learning letters of the alphabet teaches toddlers how to recognize the shapes of letters, and how those letters form words. Help your child learn about letters at home. If you don’t have alphabet magnets, create your own alphabet book using pieces of paper – with one letter for each page. Let your toddler trace the letters, and then create their own alphabet books.

Print the letters of your child’s name on a piece of paper and say each letter out loud for your child. Make paper signs with your child’s name to tape to doors or toy boxes. Let your child decorate the signs with crayons. Remember the Alphabet Song? Sing the ABCs to your child. Point out letters on cereal boxes and other items around your home. You can say, “Look, that’s the same letter that’s in your name.”
