Springtime with Sunflowers

March 27, 2022

Celebrate spring with paper plate sunflowers. All your toddler needs is a paper plate and crayons. Show the child a picture of a bright yellow sunflower. You can cut out giant petals and glue them (with kid-safe glue) to a paper plate. Or, you can print a sunflower drawing to cut out and paste on a paper plate.

Using crayons helps a toddler improve what teachers call “fine motor skills.” By exercising fingers and hands, toddlers learn skills that will make it easier to hold pencils and pens during their school years. When helping your toddler identify and pronounce the names of colors, you are adding to your toddler’s vocabulary. Praising and displaying your child’s work gives your toddler confidence, which is also important in helping your toddler be eager to learn at home and in the classroom.
